Update on the Babes

People have been sending me this email, and I think it's so stinking cute. It's titled, "HOW TWINS ARE MADE." I hope our little girls are as cute as these little twins! It's been quite an eventful last little while for our babies. So far, things have gone so well--so much better than we had expected them to. We have really been watched over. Friday, Dan went with me to my doctor's appointment at about 2:45. I had high blood pressure. I didn't think that would be a big deal, but the doctor seemed pretty concerned. She told me I needed to be on modified bed rest--whatever that means. I'm still figuring that part out. But I'm just trying to stay down as much as I can. Good thing Makee is such a good boy! So after my appointment, she sent us down to labor and delivery for a bunch of testing. They also hooked me up to some monitors to check and see if the babies were doing okay. It took forever to find one of the baby's heartbeats because she was moving around like crazy. They had to have like three nurses come in to search for it, but they finally found it. As far as they could tell, the babies were fine, my blood tests came back normal, and my blood pressure went back down. They also gave me a steroid shot to help with the development of the babies' lungs. (I also had to go back Saturday for another round of steroids, but now I'm done). We were at labor and delivery on Friday for about 2 1/2 hours. We didn't get out of the hospital until about 6:15 on our anniversary, so we just went to dinner.

This week I went in for my first non-stress test. For these, they hook me up to monitors, watch both babies' heartbeats, movement, and my blood pressure. The babies were showing to be "non-reactive," which means their heart rates were not going up with their movements. And the baby that was moving around like crazy on Friday was not moving around at all. So then they sent me in for a "biophysical" test along with my ultrasound, which measures the different movements of the babies. The first baby passed right off, but the second one was still not moving. Her little heart was going, but she was fast asleep! So they took the babies' measurements. The bigger one measured to be about 2 1/2 lbs., and the little one measured somewhere between 2 and 2.5. But she still wasn't moving. I couldn't figure it out because usually she is the most active one. So they told me to come back the next day.

The next day, I drank a bunch of Sprite and ate some candy (to heck with my gestational diabetes--I needed to get these babies movin'!) I went in and the babies were still considered "non-reactive," even though they were moving around like crazy. They said it's still early because I'm only 29 weeks. So they did another biophysical, and guess what...our little baby passed so fast! She was moving around a ton. They didn't bother to do the bigger baby because she was fine the day before. So that's where we're at! Both of them are fine, although it took quite a bit of stress to figure that one out.

Oh, we're so glad everything is going just fine! I'm so glad they haven't come yet. Hopefully they'll cook a few more weeks before they make their appearance into this world. But we're breathing a whole lot easier now that I'm past 28 weeks. I think if they came now, they would end up being okay. These little stinkers better be cute for all the stress they've already caused us!

I'm so glad that the babes are doing well. It was hard to not be here with ya when all this stuff was going on but we will be here from here on out!

Of course the girls are going to be beautiful. This is just the beginning of the stress for you and Danel. In a few years Dan will have to be standing at the door with his shotgun when the boys start showing up.

I am so happy the girls are doing good! I can only imagine how stressful it is. I would love to get together with you guys. Would you be up for it? We could do something laid back. If your not up for it though I totally understand. I'll facebook you or something K!
