Yes, it has been quite a bummer weekend. The flu has hit our family like the plague. We've missed out on Friday night date night, watching Dan race, the Utah State Fair with my fam, and Sunday dinner with Daniel's fam. What a weekend! Makee has had a runny nose and a little bit of a sick tummy for the last couple weeks. Last week after Makee's party, Isabelle came down with the flu. She was throwing up all Sunday night. Whit stayed home with her Monday and Tuesday, and then on Wednesday she took her over to my mom's to make sure she didn't get Mak sick. By Thursday, she was doing well and Whit decided to bring her over. But in the morning, I woke up with a horrible sore throat. So she took Ich over to my mom's so I wouldn't get her sick. Thursday was a miserable day for me, and by Thursday Whit had come down with the flu. Friday I wasn't really feeling too much better. Luckily, Daniel was home on Friday to help take care of Mak.
At around 3:00 on Friday afternoon, I went to get Makee from his nap. He had thrown up all over his bed. He was throwing up about every 15 minutes for the next couple hours. Daniel gave him a blessing, and I called the doctor. She said to give him Pedialyte. We forced it down him since he would not eat or drink anything. As soon as we did, it came back up. Poor little guy. I felt awful for him. He wouldn't even keep down water. Finally, I called the doctor again. She said if he couldn't even keep down a teaspoon of Pedialyte, we needed to take him up to Primary Children's Hospital. So we packed the little guy up, and he threw up one more time on the way up. By this time, there was nothing left to throw up. We took him to emergency, which is always a pleasant experience, as everyone can agree.
We got there at about 7:00 pm, and by the time we saw several nurses, the resident doctor, and and the primary doctor, we didn't get out of there and home until about 11:00. It was awful when they were trying to give Makee the IV. They tried several times to get the needle into a vein in his hand, but he was so dehydrated that his veins kept folding over. Poor little guy was screaming as we were pinning him down, and there was blood everywhere. It was not a pretty sight for a mother. Finally, they got the IV into his foot. We spent most of the night with our little family in the hospital room watching A Bee Movie. As soon as they gave him some medicine and that solution got into his system, he was like a whole new kid! He was smiling and giggline just like he always does. Oh, my sweet little man! Although it was a long night, I'm so glad we took him up there. They were all so good to him, and he has not thrown up once since that night.
Saturday was race day for Dan and his family. Makee was still not completely himself, and after his long night we didn't think it would be a good idea to take him out. I still was not feeling great. Besides my horrible head cold, the flu hit me on Saturday. I was so bummed we did not get to go! But everyone had a great run, and Daniel had a lot of fun. Daniel, his brother Chris, his sister Heather, and Heather's friend and brother-in-law participated in a relay race marathon. Each of them ran a little over five miles totally altogether 26 miles, which is equal to a marathon. Great job, guys! We're so proud, and sorry we couldn't be there to support you.
Saturday was another bad day for me. I had a sick stomach all day long. I finally threw up late Saturday night, and it seemed to help a little. Saturday night, the stomach flu decided the mosey on over to Dan. He was up all night sick. Poor guy! By Sunday, he was still not feeling well at all. Luckily by Sunday, I was feeling much better so I could take over the role of caretaker and cleaner-upper. Along with all of us being sick, pretty much everyone in my family has been sick to some degree. By Monday, we're all feeling almost 100% better and ready to face another week! Through this sickness we have all experienced, I have become aware of some things I take for granted and some things I am very grateful for:
1. I am thankful for a wonderful husband who takes care of me and Mak whether we are sick or not, but especially when we are sick.
2. I am thankful for our health. You sure don't realize how nice it is to feel good until you've been sick.
3. I'm thakful for good doctors who know what they are doing and can take care of my little boy when he is sick.
4. I'm thankful that Heavenly Father answers our prayers. No matter how small or insignificant, he always hears our prayers.
5. I'm thankful that the flu doesn't last forever!

Oh my goodness, that all sounds so miserable! I'm so glad you are all okay. Being sick really does make you appreciate how good it feels to be well!
